OCCUPY TILL I COME: THE MARKET PLACE PERSPECTIVE
“And he called his ten servants and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.” (Luke 19:13 KJV)
In most personal data forms I have been required to fill, there had always been provisions for my occupation to be filled. Occupation has a lot to do with your economic participation in the ecosystem. It could be said to be your business or trade or career. Therefore, we can rightly conclude from the parable of the ten pounds, that occupation does not only connote occupation of economic space but taking your place and setting the pace in your own area of assignment.
God mandates and expects us to make impact in the market place by occupying profitably in our various areas of business. He does not only dislike idleness, He abhors it. He wants to meet us actively at work upon His return. (Matt.20:6)
God knows that inactivity will affect the micro and macro economy negatively. Hence, His instruction to occupy till He comes. Can you imagine a country of inactive workforce just like ours where our major workforce is mostly redundant, unemployed and worst still, unemployable?
I believe that for God to give that instruction, it means that He has endowed every man with some yet to be discovered gifts, talents or capital to harness and do business. The combined effect of our text, Luke 19:12-26 and Matthew 20, clearly reveals the availability and workability of the four factors of production, i.e. land, labour, capital and entrepreneurship, for man’s maximum economic benefit and impact to his world.
I charge you therefore, discover what God has deposited in you and trade with it for maximum profit and impact.
It is a new day for you!
Remain ever beautified!
